Exploring a roof garden #magicmoments

I am no gardener. I prefer to go for the wildlife garden look. Think nettles, weeds, wildflowers, long grass. Yep - a right old wilderness with the odd plant in pots which is about all I can cope with.

The children love to garden though - luckily their school has a gardening club with people far more green fingered than me helping them out!

Since I'm very keen on the children knowing where their food comes from I did have a go at growing some vegetables. It didn't go so well. I really do not have green fingers. But I am resourceful so I asked a friend if we could visit her amazing rooftop garden where she grows a variety of fruit, veg and herbs.

The children were so excited - they got to climb out onto the roof garden and admire the view, they leafed all about the various plants growing from my very knowledgeable friend, they got to use the very clever watering system which uses rain water collected in slim wall-mounted water tanks AND they got to eat fresh peas straight from the pod!

After a drink and a run round the beautiful ground level garden we returned home with some fresh vegetables for tea. Magic!
