Review of the Table Table breakfast -Kids Eat Free!

We do love a full English breakfast in the madmumof7 household. Whether it's cooked by me or eaten out we all have our favourite ingredients. Time it right and I can completely miss sorting out lunch!

Lots of places have twigged that we are not alone in wanting to start the day with a family breakfast including Table Table which offers a fabulous "Kids Eat Free" deal at their restaurants.

We went along to the Horse and Jockey Table Table on the A5 near Dunstable to check out the breakfast. We have tried most of the big chain offerings but this was our first time at a Table Table so we were keen to see how it might compare.

We were shown to a great table in a lovely bay window with lots of natural light and our friendly waitress explained the system. It's not difficult - you help yourself to a variety of buffet options then if you want to for an extra few pounds you can order what you fancy in the quantities you fancy from the cooked breakfast menu.

The children were ridiculously excited and could not wait to explore the buffet. Grumpy was delighted to see that they had chocolate rice cereal - something we don't really have at home. DS#4 is a huge pancake addict and the fact that Table Table's recent menu shake-up means they now offer American buttermilk pancakes made his day.

In fact there are lots of exciting new additions to the breakfast menu including Pain au Chocolat, Cinnamon and Raisin bagel, sourdough crumpets, Yeo Valley Compote and Yoghurts and dried fruit mix to add to cereals and yoghurt.

The cooked breakfast menu has some new components too - I tried the Bubble and Squeak which was  absolutely delicious.

A great test of a breakfast is the way the eggs are cooked. My children love scrambled eggs and pronounced them "awesome." I ordered a poached egg which can often be a complete failure but in this case it was a triumph - absolutely perfectly cooked and oozing.

It was such a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning- we all chatted and laughed and the children never got bored because they could keep popping back to the buffet to top up their drinks or their plates and bowls.

There were lots of drink choices - a variety of teas, coffee, fruit juices and milk. There is a toaster grill so you can make your own toast or crumpets or you can ask staff to warm your croissant or pancakes.

For three adults and four children our bill added up to just over £26. We definitely thought it was excellent value for money.

There are actually two deals -at the Table Table restaurant which are situated next to Premier Inn hotels up to two children aged 15 and under eat breakfast free with every person buying an adult breakfast. This was the deal we sampled.

At restaurants not situated next to Premier Inn hotels one child under 10 years can choose a from a selection of breakfast choices if an adult buys an Ultimate Cooked Breakfast or Ultimate Vegetarian Cooked breakfast meal deal.

Our only slight gripes - the coffee could have been hotter and my husband was missing his grilled tomato. Staff were extremely helpful however -they sorted out the tomato situation quickly and I am sure the coffee would have been replaced if we had pointed it out. It wasn't a massive issue for us so we didn't bother. I can never drink hot coffee anyway so it was perfect for me!

I always wonder about reviewing places where they know why I am there so I lurked and listened to another family enjoying breakfast in the next room - they received the same excellent service as us and seemed to enjoy their meal as much as we did.

Comparing the breakfast to other chains we have eaten at I think it would come high up in the rankings, possibly even top - I would have to visit again to see if the standard was consistent which is the issue I have with other brands.

The choice was good, the value for money especially with the Kids Eat Free deal was top notch- the Table Table breakfast gets a thumbs up from us.
