How to Plan a Family Staycation

The best family holidays don’t necessarily need to be the ones where you are jetting off thousands of miles to far-flung destinations. You can have perfectly wonderful holidays in your own country. And when you are looking to have a vacation on a budget, they may be the only option available to you. With a little bit of planning, you can make sure that you enjoy a family staycation that lasts long in the memory. So, here are just a few ideas of what you can do with your time.

Go On a Road Trip

Okay, being locked up in a car with your kids for an extended period of time may not sound all that appealing, but if you plan your road trip properly, you can ensure that you have a fantastic time. First of all, you should map out the trip together, deciding on some stopping points which suit the whole family. Next, you should ensure that you have plenty of entertainment along the way including music, car games, and audiobooks. And, you need to put safety at the top of your list of priorities. Look for stops along the way and check out what's on Saint Annes. Make sure that your GPS system is in full working order to avoid any arguments about directions!

Take Part in a House Swap

If you are worried about accommodation costs, you can cut back on these quite significantly (or even entirely) by taking part in a house swap. Perhaps you live in the city and you have a friend in the country - or vice-versa - who you could swap homes with. Even if you are not going all that far away, you can get an entirely different perspective on a place when you have a change of scenery. If you don’t know anyone who you can swap houses with, you could always do a search online for people who may be willing.

Go Camping

Camping should come high up on the list when you are looking for affordable staycation ideas for the family. Check out what sort of local campsites are available in the area, and make sure that you have all the right equipment. You may be happy with a basic campsite with just a couple of toilets and shower facilities or you may prefer something more upmarket on the ‘glamping’ side of things. When you are out in the wilderness, you should certainly plan some outdoor pursuits like hiking which will be great for bonding time as a family.

Spend a Night or Two in a Local Hotel

If your budget will stretch to it, you could plan to spend one or two nights away in a local hotel. If you have got a week booked off as vacation time, you could always book the hotel in the middle of it to get a better deal. There is something special and exciting about staying in a place where you don’t have to worry about the cleaning or chores - even if it is only for a short time.
