Don't waste time- musings from a 46 year old and Muse.

My husband is a huge Muse fan and we often have the band's music on in the car as we are trundling up and down the motorway visiting our grown-up children on the south coast.

I feel particularly old on these occasions anyway - how on earth did I get to an age where one child was arranging a mortgage and the other was off to Tokyo solo?

But add to that feeling lyrics from the Muse track, Knights of Cydonia from the album Black Holes and Relevations, it's a sobering reminder that our time on this planet is finite.

"Don't waste your time or time will waste you."

Yes indeed. Don't waste your time. And by that I don't mean turn off  Strictly Dancing Pop Idols in the Jungle or whatever the latest prime time-filler is. If watching it makes you happy, gives you something to chat about to colleagues, friends and family, well, fine.

But I take it to mean grasp every opportunity to actually LIVE your life. I've written previously that my personal motto is stolen from Dr Pepper's ads - "what's the worst that can happen?"

I'm currently struggling with a particularly bad flare-up of Fibromyalgia but these lyrics prompt me to drag myself out of bed, dry shampoo my hair and at least have a go at life.

I am constantly inspired by blogger Vicky Kuhn from Around and Upside Down who uses her wheels to live an incredibly active life. Her blog about disabled lifestyle, plus size fashion, body positivity and much more is a beacon of not wasting time despite a fair few obstacles which many would use as an excuse to let time waste them.

I have a few friends who have been sideswiped by cancer recently. Luckily they are bold, badass people who have decided to stick two fingers up to the C-word and carry on running, singing, living despite toxic drugs, hair loss and massive surgeries. But it just goes to show that you never know when your life might change dramatically.

Time is not our friend, time will waste you so don't waste time.
