Roast muntjac with red wine, rosemary and redcurrant & mustard mash recipe

Just in case you are reading this and wondering what on earth muntjac is: it's a type of deer, lighter and generally less gamey than venison with a very low fat content and a wonderful taste which I would compare to rare beef.

We get lots of muntjac in the area I live in as we are quite close to where muntjac originated. Well obviously not originally - originally they were from China but were brought to Bedfordshire in about 1900 by the Duke of Bedford.

Escapes and deliberate releases have resulted in a fairly wide spread of wild Reeves" Muntjac to give them their full name. Interesting fact - they are believed to be the oldest breed of deer with prehistoric remains found dating back to as long as 35 million years ago!
They are considered a serious threat to woodland management as they will eat almost any plant material and therefore I am occasionally offered haunches by a local gamekeeper who owns and manages a local ancient woodland.

I love my car -it's a teeny Peugeot 205cc cabriolet with red and black leather seats, a red and black leather steering wheel and alloys. It's totally a mid-life crisis car.

I couldn't believe my luck when DH agreed to let me have it. It all came about due to a change in his work situation which meant it became necessary for us to have two cars.

With one child already flown from the nest and another who would only come out with us under cover of darkness or with the promise of a meal plus the fact that most of the children were at school all day I felt stupid driving around alone in our huge long wheel based 9 seater VW minibus. I felt
like I ought to stop at bus stops and pick a few more people up.

So we traded it in for a Ford Galaxy (still 7 seats) and were looking at getting a sensible compact runabout for me. Maybe a Ka or a Focus. Then I spotted my new baby on the forecourt. It was love at first sight. DH talked to the garage owner - our minibus for the Ford Galaxy…

Handbag heaven

I blame my obsession with handbags on my mother. I remember sharing the delight of looking at handbags. We explored the insides counting for pockets and compartments, we hunted for the right strap length and colour and even today I can't help sniffing them to check that lovely real leather smell.

The delight of finding the perfect bag is something we share today. The trouble is, for me, there are far too many " perfect" bags out there.

I recently discovered the delights of the Cath Kidston range. Well, going back a bit, ten years ago I had a South African friend who rocked the shabby chic look. Her home, her clothes- I loved it all. Recently I have been brave ( and desperate ) enough to give it a go in my house, painting most of my woodwork in muted shades of grey, off-white and heritage green.. Shabby chic=painting things in Farrow and Ball colours, badly it seemed to me and it turns it I'm very good at painting things badly.
