5 Tips to Keep Your Manicure in Tip Top Condition in the Heat

Last week I attended the Amazon Wishlist 2018 event and was delighted to meet up again with the very lovely Charlotte and Kirsten, Head Trainers from Gerrard International for Jessica Nails who were showcasing all the new ranges which will feature on Amazon Luxury Beauty, and offering on the spot manicures.

It is that weird season in the media known as "Christmas In July" where influencers from the print, TV, radio and online media get a sneak peek of what will be available next season.

I was spoilt for choice with all the new colours from Jessica for autumn/winter and the holiday season. From cosy natural tones like Toasted Pecans to Fallen Leaves to bold and buzzy party colours including Clean Slate and Silk Robe.

I chose a gorgeous vivid purple called New Year, New Me and as I was getting my nails done I chatted with the team about the hot weather and its impact on beauty regimes we came up with five top tips for caring for your nails and nail products in the hot weather.

  1. Keep nail polish in the fridge. Although nail colours are best normally at room temperature, in a cool dry place, in extreme temperatures they will apparently keep better in the fridge. Allow to warm up a little before using.
  2. Massage your nails with oil. Nails like skin and hair will dry out in sunshine and heat.  Use cuticle oil around polished nails or treat un-varnished nails to a proper massage. You can use your favourite hand cream or even olive oil to make sure they stay strong, grow well and look great.
  3. Wear gloves. If you are gardening, washing up grill pans after the BBQ or doing any summertime DIY wear gloves to protect your hands and nails.
  4. Go Squoval. Yep. It's a thing. File your nails, or ask your manicurist to shape them for you in a square/oval shape which is the strongest shape, especially if you are trying to grow nails for summer wedding or other special occasion.
  5. Use UV protection. Yes, even your nails will benefit from UV protection. Jessica offer a High Gloss finish polish with UV inhibitors which will keep even neon colours brighter for longer.
