Tile Transformations Modernise Your Home

On the whole I am happy with the way my home looks but there's one room I would love to rip apart and totally transform is my tired, dated bathroom which no amount of accessing will save.

We could call in a bathroom specialist but to be honest we are far more likely to go for the DIY option which would give us flexibility in choosing elements like flooring, taps, shower trays and tiles.

I've written about our terrible bathroom previously but it still is the ugly toad in my beautiful house. Part of the issue is the amount of tiling which would have to come off and then new tiling sorted to replace it.  Choosing the tiles should be easier than it was there last time we did it which is so long ago pretty much everything had a rag roll or floral theme.

I love the larger styles of tile available now and chose a glossy black version of an industrial style tile for my kitchen which we used to create a stylish splash back for my range cooker. You might be a bit frightened about cutting tiles but you can buy sigma tile cutters if you are working on your home projects which should take the stress away and help cut down on broken or mis-cut tiles.

Changing tiles can make an enormous difference to the vibe of a room. Walk round your local bathroom centre or DIY/home improvement store if they have display units where you can see how different tile styles can have a huge impact on the overall effect of the room.

You can opt for a neutral coloured tile and accent with colours or be bold and choose patterned or coloured tiles. I'd advise obtaining samples which are usually available free or for a minimal cost to bring home to see if you like them in what will be their final setting. Tiles are not like paint - you cant just change them with a few brush strokes so it's important to make sure you really love them before they are affixed.

Back to my bathroom -I have moments when I think I would actually like to get rid of my bath altogether and install a lovely large shower area but I wonder if I would miss the tub on the odd occasion I feel like a long hot soak.

I suppose we will get round to updating our bathroom eventually but in the meantime I will spend many hours browsing Pinterest looking for inspiration. The trouble with that of course is I end up feeling a bit envious, wondering how I can fit a copper plated free standing bath and a floor length window looking out into a forest in my tiny bathroom which doesn't have a view of any forest.

As long as I keep my expectations realistic I am sure even with my small space I can create a beautiful tiled bathroom which will feel a bit more spa like than my current room.
