I was recently asked to describe the contents of my wardrobe. I opted for "quirky blended with classic pieces" which has pretty much been my style since I was a teen. My mum always drummed into me how important it was to have a few classic pieces which you could mix and match with fashion pieces and that advice has stood me well.
My clothing from Lands' End fits nicely into the classics category. Good quality, comfortable pieces team perfectly with unique clothing from the back streets of Brighton or independent London boutiques.
From workdays to weekends, skiing to summer hols a carefully curated collection can carry you through pretty much any occasion. Not that my collection is very carefully curated- I'm terrible for impulse purchases of shoes, bags and clothes and change my look as frequently as a chameleon changes colour.
Currently I am loving navy and white nautical stripes, teamed with gorgeous bright yellow or red cardigans or accessories.
Today (pictured) I am wearing a lightweight navy and white striped dress bought in a boutique in Gloucester with big silver unicorn skeleton earrings from Camden Market.
Sticking with the stripes vibe I found a gorgeous green and white striped women's cotton/linen Polo Shirt when browsing women's tops and polo shirts on the Lands' End website which would look fab with blue or white jeans, white wide leg trousers or maybe a denim skirt.
Polos are not just for girls. Personally I love a bloke in a Polo shirt. They are effortlessly classic and suit literally all ages. When my eldest boys were little I adored twinning them in contrasting Polos. My eldest (neat and tidy) boy would wear white with navy piping while his brother who permanently managed to look like he'd just run through a hedge wore the more stain-proof navy with white piping.
My 24-year-old likes a Polo shirt like the one pictured below from the Lands' End men's Polo Shirt collection. That contrasting button-down collar/placket dresses up this style of shirt making it perfect for smart-casual nights out, barbecues and summer lunches for men of all ages.
If you are into couple clothes twinning choosing matching Polo shirts is a quick and easy way to capture that vibe. Choose a range of pastels for a family photo or red and green for your Christmas card pic. Land's End offer a monogram service on some Polo styles too for just an extra £3.50!
Another classic top I always have in my wardrobe is the long sleeved T-shirt or jersey top. Great for under sweaters on cold days, with dungarees for a fun fashion take and put together with jeans, chinos or leggings for those between season days when it's tool cold for short sleeves but heavier tops are just too much.
This women's @Supima long sleeve crew neck T shirt comes in a range of block colours and prints and would be a useful addition to anyone's wardrobe. 100% cotton and machine washable this top offers a relaxed fit in regular, plus and petite fits. Did you know that @Supima cotton is farmed to minimise environmental impact?
Great for menopausal layering - when the hot flushes strike you can strip off a cardigan, hoodie or sweater. Vest/tank tops are perfect for this too and there were years I never went out without one underneath my outfit for the worst hot flashes.
Lands' End do some great characterful tops in a variety of fits from close fitting to loose and airy. Often you can choose from regular, petite or plus fit which guarantees a perfect fit.
I think everyone should have long and short sleeved and tank tops in at least black, white/cream and navy but. couple of fun prints are handy too for those days you just want an easy but stylish fit.
