Meccano Chevrolet Corvette - a perfect Father's Day gift.

My husband would probably take advantage of any excuse to abandon the DIY and tinker with the timeless construction toy. I use the word "toy" loosely because this particular model will challenge even the most adept model-builder with some of the teeny-tiniest real metal pieces requiring real skill and dexterity to place correctly.

This particular set has 279 pieces plus tools and a suggested age of 10+ so if the Meccano fan in your life has successfully built less complex pieces it might be a good one to try next.

For those who like their toys to have specific educational characteristics, this particular set supports today's STEM curriculum -STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach.

My 12 year old son has so far spent literally weeks building his Corvette, popping back to it every now and again when he feels like some quiet time. I look forward to seeing the finished article!

I love that even the young screen-obsessed generation seem to love Meccano as much as I did when I was a child and with such a huge range from traditional models up to build your own working robot kits on offer there's sure to be a Meccano set to suit.
