Crabbing in October in Milton, Portsmouth, UK #mysundayphoto

The sun was shining. We had a rare free weekend and my teen son has made us very proud by more than doubling his target of 20 positive behaviour points at school. It felt like a good time for a trip to the seaside.

We love fishing for crabs so even though it's October we took along our lines, rods and nets and headed for one of our favourite crabbing spots close to where my eldest son lives in Southsea, Portsmouth.

It's right next to a cheap and cheerful family friendly Greene King pub, The Thatched House in Milton, where we had a nice lunch for under £35  - not bad for three adults and three children including a drink. (This isn't a sponsored post by the way - we just like the pub)

The pub has a lovely view of the water and boats and on a dry day it's lovely to eat al fresco at the waterside tables but it was a little windy so we sat indoors. After lunch we headed outside for a fishing session.

My 19-year-old son managed to catch one small specimen and my youngest son caught two tiny fish so not a great haul but lots of fun was had by all.
