A Snowman At Aphrodite's Rock, Cyprus

We were in Cyprus recently and the sun was most definitely not shining but we still took some time to have a walk on a windy beach. Grumpy enjoyed climbing on the rocks but we said no to his request to scale Aphrodite's Rock which is considerably larger than this one.

Check out his amazing snowman hat - we picked it up in Jumbo which is an amazing store in Paphos Mall where you can buy everything from coats for dogs to beach chairs. And snowman hats of course.

You can see Aphrodite's rock looming high below while my daughter stands on the rock her brother had just climbed. Legend has it that the Goddess of Love rose from the sea using these rocks as stepping stones.

Grumpy decided the smaller rock he was standing on was impressive enough for him to do a "Lion King" Pride Rock re-enactment, complete with him singing "The Circle Of Life."

Aphrodite's Rock (or Petra Tou Romiou to give it its local name) can be found on the beautiful coast road from Paphos to Limassol. There's a free car park, cafe, shop, toilets and showers on the opposite side of the road from the beach and the pebbly beach is accessed through a narrow tunnel which goes under the road.

It's not wheelchair or buggy friendly but there are lots of scenic view points along the road where you can pull over to see and photograph the legendary rocks without having to navigate through the dark and uneven tunnel. In the summer there are usually ice-cream vans parked in the viewpoint car parks too.
