Is It Summer Yet?

Hands up if you are fed up with winter? I don't mind snowy, frosty days and evenings snuggled in front of the fire but the day to day drizzle, mist and cold, ongoing restrictive post Christmas budget and all the rest of the rubbish that February brings can do one as far as I'm concerned.

I noticed that I don't gain weight over Christmas, I pile the pounds in January and February as I use food and drink as a coping mechanism for surviving the dark days and darker nights.Nothing beats a dull day better than meeting up with mates for a pie night or cheap evening out on discount night at the pub.

I'll confess I'm typing this with a packet of chocolate biscuits at my elbow which I may be am washing down with a can of diet cola. Theres also a packet of cat treats on the coffee table - I include my pets in my "winter survival by consuming naughty treats" plan.

I have cheated a bit this winter. Through admittedly sad circumstances I have spent quite a bit of time in the last few months in Cyprus which has been warmer than here although not always sunny. There have been some spectacular storms and lots of rain while I've been there.  Although when the sun does come out it's restorative and has gone a long way towards helping me through the last few horrible months of illness and loss.

But in that very human way of adapting to your situation as soon as I got back to the UK the days of sun and coatless living seemed an age ago.

I cannot wait for the long days and sun to return.
