Holiday Fun at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Yes it is STILL the Easter holidays for many and you are possibly running out of things to do with the children. Have you thought about a day trip to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard where there is lots going on AND you can get a ticket to give you 12 months access to this fabulous destination - that's an entire year of school hol activities sorted. It's a really great deal if you are part of the home education community like me with so many fun education opportunities on offer.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyards

From exploring historic ships like Nelson’s HMS Victory and the Mary Rose to engaging with the Worlds Beneath the Waves, there is something for everyone at the dockyards and until the end of this week you can also enjoy a selection of exciting trails which are both educational and entertaining. You can also meet the conservation team onboard Victory and enjoy activities featuring Captain Vlad,  a charismatic flea who is the star of a new book, Captain Vlad and the Mary Rose. If you visit on April 12 you can even meet the creators of this new book between 12 and 4pm.

My children have loved visiting Portsmouth Historic Dockyard over the years -they loved all the history and the hands on activities while I love the fascinating harbour boat tour. You can read about our visit here but bear in mind activities and attractions may have changed since our last visit. I can't believe how little my two youngest are in the picture below.

My grandson lives fairly near the museum so I'm looking forward to taking him to visit - I bet he'd love a boat ride. There is so much to do I have never yet managed to take the waters across to The Royal Navy Submarine Museum and Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower but it's on my "must do" list for next time. Be aware though only umbrella-style folding buddies are allowed on the waterbus but there are buggy parks available. The waterbus is also not suitable for wheelchairs however you may be able to use manual wheelchairs on the harbour tour depending on space and availability.  Find out more about accessibility here.

Access to the historic dockyards is easy as it is close to a train and bus station, the Gosport ferry and a large car park (fee payable).
