One of the golden memories of my life was one hot summer when teenage me lounged on the grass in the grounds of Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire (UK) watching the legendary LiveAid concert on a teeny tiny caravan TV surrounded by friends. I am so excited that this year I will revisit this beautiful venue for Lakefest Festival, a family friendly event from 5th-9th August with an epic line-up. The Charlatans, Example and Madness are headlining with over 4 stages of stellar acts including Soul II Soul, The Bluetones, Harleymoon Kemp, Scouting For Girls, Bez, General Levy, Trynchy Stryder, Utah Saints, Newton Faulkner, Reef, David Rodigan, Seb Fontaine, Todd Terry, Woody Cook and so many more, plus a dedicated arena for kids activities.

I'd book this for Madness alone. I've been married for over 30 years and "our song" is "It Must Be Love" but we've never seen them perform live. With my husband suffering some serious health issues just the thought of seeing them play together brings a tear to my eye. I can only hope they play our song but if they don't I will be happy to be singing along to some of their lengthy list of hits.

Madness aside, I am so excited about this line-up especially since the most recent announcement that the one and only Bananarama will be one of the Sunday headliners.

Celebrating 40 years in the business, Bananarama's DIY style and attitude inspired a generation redefining what a girl band could be.

Bananarama's girl power ruled long before the Spices and the band had chart topping hit after chart topping hit including Venus, Love in the First Degree, Cruel Summer, Robert De Niros Waiting, Cruel Summer and Our Lips Are Sealed. 

They hold the Guiness world Record for being the most succesful girl band worldwide with the most charting singles. They performed twice on Band Aid, have released 12 albums, sold 30 million records and reyained their pop cool credentials with the release of their album Glorious celebrating four decades of their music in 2024.

The teased hairdos and dungarees might be gone but the music and the vibe lives on.
