It’s probably weird to say here, but road trips make people a little too confident. Like, everyone packs snacks, someone makes a playlist, the GPS says the drive is only four hours and twenty minutes, and for some reason, that makes it feel like the universe has signed a contract saying nothing weird is allowed to happen. Which, yeah, would be nice, but that’s not really how cars, weather, traffic, phones, kids, or human bladders work. If you’ve ever seen any of those road trip movies, or, well, been on one yourself, then you know for a fact that something is bound to happen.
Sure, there’s a lot of stuff you already need to get done before a road trip, like getting the car checked up and so on, and all this preparation is really a part of why you need to prepare for the unexpected. Because again, you just never know what could happen.
Take the Car Seriously ASAP
Well, given the fact that the whole trip depends on the car and its condition, it’s kind of crazy how many people just glance at it and go, “Yeah, looks fine.” Like, okay, but did it make that weird sound last week? Is the tyre pressure right? Are the wipers doing their actual job, or are they just smearing the windscreen around? Sure, obvious questions here, but these all need to be addressed.
But really, it just can’t be stressed enough here to look into mechanics to help you out and get your car checked. Actually, on your trip, check the route you’ll take and just go ahead and read up on some mechanics in that area too, in case something happens on the road itself.
What Gets People in Bad Moods During Trips?
Well, you and everyone else who’s going on that trip. But you don’t need to pack like you’re moving into the car forever, but yeah, pack as delays exist. It’s the basics that you should already know here, like water, chargers, a power bank, tissues, wipes, pain relief, basic first aid, snacks that aren’t just sweets, and a blanket (some people pack pillows too).
Because it’s not always some huge emergency, sometimes it’s traffic that doesn’t move. Sometimes someone feels carsick. Sometimes the next service station is hours away (yes, that can happen), and sometimes the only food option is a sad sandwich in plastic, and no, that’s not the memory anyone wanted from the trip, right? It’s about good memories, but you need to be prepared in order for that to be possible.
Don’t Rely too Heavily on Your Phone
Well, just to be entirely blunt here, phones are great until they’re not. The battery dies, the signal disappears, the map decides a tiny road through nowhere is somehow the best idea, and, well, you can count on loading screens and not accessing the info you need. Yeah, that does happen. So download the route before leaving.
Also, just be sure here to screenshot hotel details, addresses, insurance info, roadside assistance numbers, and anything else that would be irritating to dig for later. It’s also smart to tell someone the rough route, especially for longer drives.
