Brand-new cars are ridiculously expensive, and 99% of the population will only be able to afford one on finance. This means that used cars are a popular way to save money, yet they come with one clear drawback: they’re old!
You’re driving around in a cheaper car that might look and feel outdated. Now, you don’t expect your old car to drive like a Bentley or any other luxury car, but you would like it if it felt a bit more modern, so here are some clever things you can do to it.
Upgrade The Suspension System
Older cars have outdated suspension systems that make them drive a bit rougher than new ones. You’ll marvel at how smoothly a brand-new car can deal with any bumps in the road compared to your old vehicle. Thankfully, you can replicate this smoothness by upgrading the suspension system with some new kit. It’s usually a fairly simple case of removing the current suspension and using a modern suspension kit to tweak the ride and make it drive more like a modern vehicle.
Improve Infotainment, Audio & Soundproofing
Newer cars have way better audio systems, enhanced infotainment and improved soundproofing than their equivalent older versions. This is all thanks to improvements in technology and materials, but you can upgrade all of them in an older vehicle without too much hassle. An infotainment and car audio upgrade can give you a touchscreen with high-quality speakers so you can connect your phone and play music through Spotify. Make sure the upgrade comes with the ability to use Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and the interior of your vehicle will look and feel more modern right away.
Combine this with sound-deadening materials in your doors and floors to reduce the noise that is generated from outside of your car. Look, you’ll never achieve Rolls-Royce levels of soundproofing, but a little goes a long way.
Install Parking Assistance Systems
Parking assistance systems are the best invention for modern cars. We’ve got to the point where most brand-new cars now come with some sort of parking assistance as standard. This normally involves parking sensors - though some brands throw in a reversing camera. And let’s be honest, if you were to buy a new car, you’d make sure to pay for those extra features anyway.
You can now take your old car and give it these parking assistance systems by adding aftermarket products. Reversing cameras are easier for you to install, and they connect to your newly upgraded infotainment system so you can see what’s happening on a screen. Installing aftermarket parking sensors is a bit harder, but it can be done.
Ta da: your old car now feels a lot more like a new one. It even looks newer when you’re inside it, thanks to the infotainment and audio upgrades, and it drives a hell of a lot better, too. The additional of parking sensors or a camera makes you feel like you’re in a new car without spending a tonne of money.
