6 Fun Things To Collect (That Aren't Stamps)

We all know someone who loves to collect stamps (or at least, we used to). But it turns out that there are so many other collectibles out there, and many of them are actually far more rewarding than simple stamps.

But what should you be collecting to enhance your lifestyle? Let’s take a look, shall we?

Airline Sickness Bags

Are you a frequent flyer? Are you someone who can make it through a flight without hurling

If so, you might want to start collecting airline sickness bags. Yes, it might sound strange, but you’d be surprised by just how many people are into them. Many rare examples, like those from Concorde during the 1980s, can fetch hundreds of dollars, meaning that they have a pretty decent resale value.

Obsolete Currency

Another collectible you might want to explore is obsolete currency. This is another avenue that seems to have infinite depth, simply because there have been so many currencies and coins throughout history.

For example, there are people who collect billion or trillion-mark notes from the period of hyperinflation in Germany during the 1920s. There are also those who try to find coins from antiquity, which can be extremely rare and valuable. Once you get into it, you don’t want to stop.

Mushroom Spores

Yes, you read that right: you can also collect mushroom spores. These come in a spore syringe and can be studied under the microscope.

What’s cool about this collectible is that it is a living organism that you’re looking at. Each spore type is different, and there are thousands of them, meaning that it is possible to become a connoisseur with enough time.

Casino Chips

Casino chips are another option. Many people collect these because they have such historical value.

What’s interesting about casino chips is how much money they’ve lost people, in aggregate. However, ironically, the chips themselves are usually a really good investment. For example, a chip bought for $1 from a top Vegas Casino in 1995 is probably worth more than 25 times more today.

Regional Sodas

Did you know that there were such things as regional sodas in the past? Well, it’s true. Before the 1980s, the number of big soda corporations in the US was actually quite limited, and most didn’t blanket distribute nationally. Instead, they sent out bottles via local distribution channels.

What’s interesting is that these bottles from local bottlers were often different. That means that Pepsis from some parts of the country weren’t the same as others.

Concert Ticket Stubs

For musicians, concert ticket stubs are a great collectible. These have so much history embodied in them, representing some of the most epic concerts ever given.

What’s nice about these stubs is that the supply is limited and prices rise for the most epic gigs. For example, if you have a Nirvana stub from the early 1990s with the hologram on it intact, that can fetch tens of thousands of dollars. The same goes for anything from Woodstock in the 1960s.
